Coinbase Developer Platform and the Dev Portal is the destination for building and integrating web3 solutions, services, and products. We partner with other Coinbase products such as Base, Wallets-as-a-service, Staking, CB Pay, Advanced Trading, Commerce, Exchange so web3 developers can start building their onchain apps in minutes.

This role is for Coinbase Commerce, a powerful payment processing platform that enables merchants to securely accept crypto payments. With its user-friendly interface and seamless integration capabilities, Coinbase Commerce simplifies the process of incorporating digital currencies into online businesses using Shopify, WooCommerce or other platforms like Farcaster to expand their reach to a global customer base.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of talented, fullstack engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including product managers, designers, and business leaders, to define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for Coinbase Commerce
  • Drive the adoption of engineering best practices, including Agile methodologies, test-driven development and rapid continuous integration/continuous deployment
  • Ensure the scalability, security, reliability of the Coinbase Commerce platform and work closely with the team to optimize performance and address technical challenges
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team and facilitate technical discussions and decision-making processes
  • Contribute to the architectural design and development of key components and services for Coinbase Commerce by leveraging your crypto-native expertise and hands-on coding skills
  • Writing code, review pull requests, provide constructive feedback, and maintain high code quality standards, leading by example as an engineer at heart
  • Collaborate with other engineering leaders to align team goals and priorities with the broader organizational objectives
  • Drive the recruitment and hiring process for the Coinbase Commerce engineering team, actively seeking out crypto-native talent and individuals with a startup mindset
  • Manage the team's budget, resources, and capacity planning, and ensure the efficient allocation of resources to meet project deadlines and business goals
  • Monitor and report on key metrics and performance indicators, and use data-driven insights to continuously improve the team's processes and outcomes
  • Serve as a technical spokesperson for Coinbase Commerce, and represent the team in company-wide initiatives and external events in the crypto community

What we look for in you:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ years of experience in engineering management
  • Strong technical background in fullstack development, with expertise in languages such as Ruby, Go, JavaScript, and TypeScript
  • Hands-on coding experience and the ability to contribute to the codebase, review pull requests, and provide technical guidance to the team
  • Experience in building and scaling high-performance, secure, and reliable payment processing systems in a crypto-native environment
  • Deep understanding of Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, and hands-on experience with smart contract development using Solidity
  • Proven track record of leading and managing high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced, agile, and crypto-focused startup environment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor team members in the dynamic crypto landscape
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on driving results and delivering value to the business and the broader crypto community
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, and a commitment to continuous improvement and learning
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and experience with containerization like Kubernetes
  • Deep understanding of web security best practices and experience with implementing secure coding practices for financial systems in the crypto space
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Passion for Onchain/ Web3 and a deep understanding of the crypto ecosystem and its potential application

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$201,450$237,000 USD
