CFS is seeking a Sr. Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) to oversee welding operations for large fabricated structures, primarily of austenitic stainless steel, for the SPARC project. Daily duties will consist of monitoring fabrication progress, managing WPS and PQRs, monitoring welder performance, performing inspections of weldments, and soldered structures to support manufacturing and assembly operations.
This team member will:
- Collaborate with the weld engineering and related departments to develop welding specifications and procedures adhering to applicable codes and standards
- Facilitate communication between engineers, welders, project managers, vendors, and technicians, providing guidance on quality specifications and technical drawings
- Advise engineering teams and vendors on welding methods and the interpretation of weld symbols.
- Support welding operations at vendor sites through routine audits and supervision
- Oversee all welding activities at the CFS2 SPARC construction site, maintaining quality and safety standards
- Conduct routine walkthroughs and audits at the construction site to ensure compliance with welding specifications
- Provide quality assurance supervision over welding and non-destructive testing (NDT) subcontractors.
- Identify and troubleshoot potential issues in the welding process
- Coordinate with other departments for successful project execution
- Review, validate, and manage WPS & PQRs, as well as inspection outcomes and material test reports from vendors
- Interpret mechanical and inspection requirements and results for various metals, including austenitic steels, copper, aluminum, and other alloys
- Conduct in-process inspections of weldments and soldered structures according to internal and industry specifications (AWS D1.1, D1.6, ASME Sect V, IX)
- Review blueprints and documentation to ensure the correct materials are used and specifications are met
- Regularly audit vendors and oversee weld operations to ensure compliance with requirements.operations to ensure compliance with requirements
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
- High School Diploma
- AWS CWI or SCWI Certification10+ years of experience in welding operations, inspection of welds, and fabrication of structures
- NDT Certifications required, RT Level 3 highly preferred
- Welding/inspection experience of austenitic stainless steels and other high alloyed steels
Additional experience and/or qualifications:
- Experience in Aerospace, Power Generation, petrochemical and/or other large structure fabrication
- Radiographic film interpretation.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Perform activities such as typing, standing, and sitting, for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call or long hours
